Pay Attention to Your Finances to Rid Yourself of Debt
Many things can happen to us, bad luck, job loss and divorce. Which can be partly to blame for the debt we have. But, we know deep inside of our minds that we are more than partly to blame for the debt we have. All we have to do is just closely look at how we treat money.
Are you the type of person that forgets to pay your bills on time? If you do not pay your bills on time, many times there's extra late fees you have to pay. Take any credit account you have, call that creditor and ask for copies of last 12 billing periods. Now, look through each statement and add up all your late fees for the last 12 months and you will be surprised that this could be in the range of $250 easily.
I have a simple technique to share with you to help you pay your bills on time. Pick one area in your home to keep your bills, a staging area. Once you walk into your home with your mail in hand, go to that area. Now, open each bill and look at the due date. Once you have the due date write it on the outside of the envelope and placed the envelope to where you can see it easily in your staging area. Remember that this staging area is just for your bills and you know it's a place you have to check daily for due dates in order to pay the bills on time.
This little technique that I just described is what makes the difference between me paying my bills on time or them being late. This little routine has easily saved me $500 a year in late fees that I do not have to pay anymore. Also, not to mention the improvement of my credit score of no longer having late payments on my credit history. This 500 dollars that I would have usually had paid towards late payments can now be applied to the debt I have, not late fees.
