Debt and Its Trappings
Debt can be a menacing tyrant. The sad truth is that many people get into debt and never manage to squeeze themselves out of it. Considering the low level of state support into older age, it is extremely important to get your finances in order sooner rather than later.
At first, it seems quite the paradox: it is more expensive to be poor. A lot of people in the U.S. live pay check to pay check, much of the time incurring late fees for bill payments on a regular basis. This is only a very small slice of the pie, though. People with bad credit ratings are usually slogged with higher interest rates and expensive fees, just for being in debt. A lot of your income may be solely used to service the debt you have, not actually pay it off. You can see how it's an endless cycle of frustration.
When you clear your debt, you also clear the fees associated with managing it.
Being financially ailing also affects your lifestyle in many other ways: you may never find the time (or money, obiously) to ever take trips or try something new, like a different job or location.
It is very important to have some basic financial goals; if you want to get out of debt, you need to set these. Slowly but surely, you will tear away from the mindset that got you into your debt cycle. Make small changes, and make lots of them over time, and you'll thank yourself later.
The best tip to staying out of debt is frugal living. Do without, and you will have more - I know, I know, again with the paradoxes?! My number one tip is: start today!
