3. Get rid of bigger items things around the house by listing them on Craigslist. This works great for furniture, extra fridge, tools, and washers. Anything you think people will want or be looking for you usually sell. It is like a free classified ad or a garage sale that focuses on one thing at a time. It is also great for selling large items that you would have a hard time shipping.
4. Get rid of clothes, furniture, and anything left buy having a garage sale. Most garage sales are about location and volume. Combining with 2 or 3 families and having the garage sale near a large apartment complex or a busy intersection is a great way to make sure every thing sells. If you have to advertise it always say you have a box of free stuff available. This will get you early traffic. You can make a few hundred easy bucks in a few hours and clean out the garage at the same time!
5. Find all the loose change throughout the house. If you haven't done this for a while it yields about $40. Keeping a change draw in the laundry area can net you $200-$400 dollars a year.
6. Make and keep a budget. Use cash if you have too to keep from overspending. Write everything down. Doing this allowed us to save nearly $500 dollars in our monthly budget. Also try a backwards budget, write down everything you spend money on last month from memory, then compare it to the actual amounts spent. If you are spending more then you thing you are spending, you could probably afford to spend less.
7. Other ideas:
Clip food and restaurant coupons.
Take back new stuff that is unopened like clothes, toys and tools for in store credit.
Redeem unused gift cards.
